After I threw a tantrum, MomM cancelled her "clinic" for the day and spent time with us, the kids, on our last weekend in Taiwan. Come on, it made sense, don't you think?
Our day started with a visit to the most popular temple in Taipei City 台北市, the Menjia Longshan Temple 艋舺龍山寺. Right after praying, instead of having lunch first, MomM took us to a popular dessert joint near the temple for some delicious shaved ice. Yup, my mommy let us have sweets before our meal...wahahahaha!
We had a quick lunch at 小南鄭記台南碗粿, another local favorite located just around the corner from shaved ice. With only two items on their menu (Bowl Cake 碗粿 and Milkfish Nugget Soup 虱目魚羹), this place has very consistent traffic of both dine-in and take-out customers. For as long as I could remember, this place has always been a "must visit" for me whenever I'm in the area...yes, it's that good!!! But of course, comparing to the one that I had at 6am in Tainan City 台南市 (see post 2012-07-04 Day 06 @ Taiwan), this would rank #2 on my list. Nonetheless, so far, in my opinion, this place serves the best bowl cake 碗粿 in Taipei City 台北市.
BigPole and Buddha Boy, coincidentally, wore matching-colored shirts two days in a row!!! LOL! Yellow on the first, green on the second. The looked like twins...hahahaha!
WOW...we, the hillbillies, never knew agnès b. runs coffee shops too! Interestingly enough, from what I read online, the company issued an official apology in March 2012 after Hong Kong diners filed complaints about its English and simplified Chinese menu. The diners felt it's an insult and discrimination towards non-Mainlanders (especially towards Hong Kong residents). Yes, the company was THAT STUPID!!! Simplified Chinese? In Hong Kong and Taiwan? Idiots. Since then, all menus have been changed to include traditional Chinese.
Tonight, we were invited by MomJ's only friends in Taiwan, Dr.L & Mme.S, whom, through Buddha Boy and myself, met MomM and became her students later. The restaurant is located on the 8th floor of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi 新光三越百貨 (a department store) by MRT Zhongshan Station 捷運中山站. We were greeted and constantly "educated" by the over-courteous Elevator Operator 電梯操作員 (aka 電梯小姐, lift-man, life woman, lift girl) of which level we're on and what the level features...kinda drove me nuts...
So where was dinner? At the well-known Shin Yeh Restaurant 欣葉台菜, a restaurant that's famous for Taiwanese-cuisine...in an upscale way. Yes, the meal was very expensive (to us). Yes, the food was exceptionally good (no doubt). Yes, Taiwan Beer has made its presence, again (ou-la-la). Yes, I ended up being a bit drunk (just a little). Hahahaha!
