Day 13...our last day in Taiwan...wow...time flies when you're having fun!!!  This trip was planned five months prior to the day we left YVR...and now...we're heading back!!!  Wish we could stay longer!!!  The funny thing was...our flight was at 11:55pm...so basically we still had the whole day...but we did not go anywhere today...instead...all four of us stayed home and packed...lol!!!  Aunt F and Aunt V were busy asking my mom more questions about their family fortune and luck...so Buddha Boy and I went off to the nearby food street to pick up some lunch...
One great thing about where my mom lives was the convenience of food and transportation...MRT (skytrain) was a block away...tons of food all over the neighborhood...and she also lives about one block away from a street market...we love it!!!  We picked up some Pork & Chive Dumplings from the noodle house across the street...
Then we head over to the food street right by my mom's place...Buddha Boy picked up an order of Chicken Cutlet...but it's just not the same as the one as Haw-Da in Shilin Night Market...
Some veggie...
Some kind of fried-rice...
Honey Glazed Ham...
Oh yea...we also picked up Century Egg Tofu from across the street...
Marinated Pork Hock
Taiwanese Rice Noodle Soup...it's kinda like Cantonese Lai-Fun but thicker...
Taiwanese-style Tempura...it's basically oden with sweet sauce...
Iced Black Tea
For dinner...we came to the Japanese restaurant that's about one block away from my mom's place...a close friend of Uncle Ping co-owns the place...according to mom and Uncle Ping...this place used to be packed...and with no reservation, you may need to wait up to one hour before you can get a table...but it took a hit during the economy downturn...
Side dishes...
Look at the color of those yolk...wow!!!
Can't remember what type of fish these were...
Potato and Corn Croquette
Shrimp Tempura
Aunt F's Hot & Spicy Ramen.
My combo...
It had some raisins and goji with the rice...the light sweetness was quite nice!

2009-10-27 Day 12 @ Taipei

When you're on the trip with two old ladies...what's their favorite thing to do?  SHOPPING!!!  From clothing to books...you name it...we were everywhere!!!
We had a tight schedule today...so for lunch, I brought Buddha Boy and the two aunties to Yon-Kang Cut Noodles...this place is famous for their cut noodles, but I never tried it before...the place that I usually go to (as I was growing up) was further away and was out of the way...
This place really only serve three types of noodles...Beef Noodles, Beef Soup Noodles (no meat, just soup), and Cha-Chiang Noodles (dry noodles with pork sauce and shredded veggie)
Other than noodles, you can also order Taiwanese Pork Meatball Soup, Clear Beef Broth, and appetizer dishes...
We went quite early...so they have not yet put everything out...
Grabbed some tea from the fridge...ok...I came across a blog the other day that blogged about Liu's Taiwanese Restaurant in Richmond...the author did not like the place because Liu's did not have BBT or animal inner parts for appetizers...he/she thought those items are a must for any Taiwanese restaurant...um...maybe in Vancouver...but definitely not in Taiwan...it's very rare to see BBT on the menu at any restaurants in Taiwan...unless it's a BBT house or a student hang-out...what you see on the menu (for food) at 604 BBT places are not even the same as the ones in Taiwan...in Taiwan...most of those BBT houses serve items similar to HK-style cafes...just wanted to clarify...
Two of our four appetizers (or side plates)...Cold-Marinated Seaweed and Cold-Marinated Tofu Noodles
The other two appetizers...Cold Marinated Pressed Tofu and Cold-Marinated Taiwanese Cabbage.
I shared a Cha-Chiang Noodles with Aunt F since both of us don't eat beef...
Buddha Boy and Aunt V each had a Beef Noodle...
Pickled Veggie and Spicy Bamboo...to mix into the Beef Noodles...
After all the shopping...we met up with my mom and went to a place where the Sifu (Master) takes you into underworld...sound scary???
I have came to this place many times...apparently...I was one of the first from my mom's group who actually "saw" things when I "went in"...you may be wondering where I went and what I saw...well...it's a long story...if you are interested...email me...lol!!!
Anyways...due to language barriers, Buddha Boy usually sits on the side while I am "inside"...but he always wanted to come along because his favorite place for Taiwanese Crispy Popcorn Chicken was right by the temple!!!
Look at all those selections...basically...Taiwanese Crispy Popcorn Chicken is only one of the items you can get of vendors like this in Taiwan...but it's been generalized as Yian-Su-Gee (meaning salt crispy chicken)...but we generally call it Crispy Popcorn Chicken...Taiwanese-style...lol!!!  Common items include squid, popcorn chicken, yam fries, blood pudding, chicken butt, fish balls, firm tofu, tempura, potato fries, etc...
After visiting the "underworld"...Uncle L and Aunt S (who also came with us to the temple) invited us to Haw-Gee (Cantonese...Ho-Kee)...
 Oooh...Mullet Roes...
Pick and choose...cook on the spot...look at all that food!!!
 Mmmmm...all that seafood....yummy!!!
Huge mushrooms...LOL!!!
