My mother-in-law is somehow a party animal.  She goes out more often than my husband and I...and yes...we're homies...hahaha!!!  Here are some of the food from NYE 2008...we TRIED to make most of the food...but with such a small and tight kitchen...we ended up buying a number of dishes...
Bought some Kumamoto Oysters and Royal Miyaki Oysters from Lobster Man.
One of the simplest appetizer to make...Cocktail Shrimps (or some calls it Shrimp Cocktail).  Just buy a pack of those frozen ready-to-eat tiger shrimps from Costco and pick up some seafood sauce...then "voila!"
My mother-in-law (MIL) made her famous Potato Salad.  Basically just potatoes, apples, eggs, and mayo.
Doesn't this look store-bought?  Our Meat & Cheese Platter.  We picked up some meat and marbled cheese from Superstore and some mini Bocconcini from Costco.  After we sliced the cheese/meat and seasoned the Bocconcini (with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper), we tossed them onto a plate then served!!!
Ok...we're not going to take too much credits for this Chinese Cold Platter - squid, pig tongue, jelly fish, and conch.  The only thing that was home-made (by my husband) was the pig tongue, rest of them were all bought from T&T.
Poached Pork Belly with Garlic Dipping Sauce - this dish is best served with Taiwanese thick soy sauce (with lots of garlic added and mixed), however, I did not have any at the moment, so I just used regular soy sauce.  One of MIL's friend, Uncle "Dead Chicken" (apparently that was his nickname since high school) kept munching on it non-stop...but I must admit, it was perfectly done!  LOL!
Common party dish - Stir-Fried Garlic Sprouts with Chinese Sausage.
Another common party dish - Deep-Fried Spring Rolls - from New Town Bakery in Chinatown.

Baked Salty Chicken from Dollar Meat Store in Chinatown...tender, juicy, yet not over-salted.
My husband's Stir-fried Shredded Pork.
Honey-Glazed Ham.
My husband made some BBQ Pork Ribs and Italian Sausages (both from Costco).
Oh another simple party-dish - Stir-Fried Taiwanese Cabbage...can't go wrong with this one!

My husband decided to try making this dish...can't recall the Chinese name for this dish...it's basically poached broccoli with egg whites topped with fish roes.  Not bad for his first try!
BBQ Spare Ribs from Dollar Meat Store in Chinatown!  The meat was so tough, no good.
MIL made this House-Special Steam Fish...basically it's chunks of basa fillets with shitake mushrooms and Westphalian ham.  It was actually quite good!
This was not-so successful...my husband tried to make a dish of Steamed Tofu (known as quin-san tofu)...but failed...too watery and lack of flavors...try again Buddha Boy.
Of course...one of my party must-haves - Scallopped Potatoes - my favorite!!!
MIL made Stuffed Shitake Mushrooms using ground pork.
