Since Buddha Boy got off work early, plus we had to pick up our delayed Christmas gift at Coquitlam Centre, we decided to head for this Korean-style Chinese restaurant on North Road. This restaurant has been on Buddha Boy's priority list ever since he read about it on Foodology.
Right after we ordered, we were served with a plate of Pickled Daikon, Black Bean Paste and raw Onions.
First to arrive was Buddha Boy's Koon Man Du (#44), or Deep Fried Dumplings. The chive and pork filling was flavorful but was a bit on the saltier side. Good ratio of chive to pork with good amount of green onions. Accompanied in the middle was a simple Cabbage Salad with Thousand Island dressing, simple yet refreshing.
Next was the Jjam Ja Myun (#28), which had both Jjam Bong (spicy seafood with noodle soup) and Ja Jang Myun (vegetable, pork and black bean sauce on noodle). I didn't enjoy the dry noodles (with black bean sauce) simply because I've never a fan of Jajangmyeon, the Korean-style of Chinese Zha-Jiang-Mian (炸醬麵). Buddha Boy, who has never tried it before, thought it's a bit boring, he prefers the Chinese-style with nothing but sauce and meat...lots of meat...hahahaha! The soup noodles were not spicy, but had that spicy fragrance that lingered around in the throat. For the price, it had a good amount and selections of seafood (squid, scallops, shrimps). Noodles were al-dente.
Buddha Boy already scouted out the menu before we came so he knew exactly what he wanted. Our final dish was his favorite dish of the night, the Kan Poong Ki (#2), or Sweet & Spicy Fried Chicken. The chicken was moist with crispy outer coating...perfectly deep-fried. The sweet & spicy sauce had just the right amount of flavors without overpowering each other. Buddha Boy enjoyed this so much that he couldn't stop talking about it for days!!!
Originally, we wanted to order more, thank goodness we didn't because the portions were quite big...and trust me, when we say big, it's BIG!!! We were so stuffed with ONLY three items!!! Overall, we enjoyed our visit here. Service was a bit slow but was thoughtful when attention was given. Kitchen was also slow when busy, but it was worth the wait.
