Bo Laksa King's Bubbles & Bits on Urbanspoon
After a trip to Malaysia, Little Lee has been dying to find some good laksa here to satisfy his cravings...unfortunately, all the ones that he tried were no where close to what he had in Malaysia.  Since Mrs. Little Lee was out of town for the weekend, we dragged Little Lee out for dinner...well, correctly speaking...it's a two-meal dinner...hahahahaha!
Our first stop for dinner was Bo's on Hastings.  With a disappointing skewer experience previously (see post 2011-07-14 Dinner @ Bo Laksa King's Bubbles & Bits), Buddha Boy wanted to give their Satay Chicken 沙嗲雞肉串 another chance.  This time, the skewers had a nice char and were nicely marinated.  The chicken was tasty but was a bit dry.  The peanut satay was a lot thicker than last time.  The sauce tasted ok, but was not the greatest.  We all agreed that the coconut milk on top of the rice took the spotlight.
With another meal lining up right after Bo's, Buddha Boy asked for a small order of Roti Canai 印度手抓餅.  Unfortunately, this was a bit cold when it arrived so the texture was not as good as our last visit.
To satisfy what Buddha Boy missed last time when we visited Bo's, Buddha Boy ordered the Shrimp Cake 香煎蝦餅.  Not bad for the price but nothing spectacular about it.  Not something for us to order again.  The sauce tasted like store-bought Thai sweet chili sauce.
Buddha Boy and Little Lee shared a Drunken Beef 酒醉牛肉飯.  According to the boys, the sauce had a light hint of lemon grass but a strong taste of basil.  The beef was tender.  Buddha Boy said the flavor tasted very similar to the sauce in Taiwanese Three-Cup Chicken 三杯雞.
Finally, the Laksa 椰香咖哩麵/粉.  After trying Malay Curry House, I wanted to see who's laksa I liked better.  To be fair, it made sense for us to try Bo's again.  Unfortunately, this time, Bo's laksa tasted horrible.  No, I'm not comparing it with Malay Curry House, instead, I'm comparing it with our last visit at Bo's.  The broth was way too grainy, bland (tasted watered-down), and lacked that "coconut" fragrance.  While I did taste a small hint of shrimp paste in the broth on our last visit, but this time, none.  The vermicelli was fine but the yellow noodles were overcooked.  Now, the worst of all, instead of using simple chicken meat like last time, this time, the chicken had such a strong curry taste that I didn't even want to touch it after one bite.  This tasted nothing like the one I had previously at Bo's and I was quite disappointment with the inconsistency.
