Saturday

2009-10-24 Day 9 @ Taipei

ADDRESS :  Going Aboard with Buddha Boy & Buddha Girl
PHONE #   :  xxx-xxx-xxxx

It's Saturday...that means we're on our own since mom and godbro has to stay in for praying rituals.  Every Saturday morning, before everyone shows up, mom will wake up early make make a huge pot of Taiwanese Vermicelli Soup...vegetarian style of course.
Mom's famous Taiwanese Vegetarian Vermicelli Soup.
One of mom's students brought me a Red Yeast Rice Roll...yes...again...it's vegetarian!!!
After Buddha Boy and I did our praying rituals...we took off (just the two of us) and visited Taiwan Storyland...a place that features all the collections of Taiwan in the fifties and sixties!
An old-school convenience store.
In the old times...CKS was extremely strict...the minute you step outside your home...it's Chinese only...and for those who don't know...Chinese means Mandarin...in history...Mandarin is "Guo-Yu" which means "country language" (or official language).  In history, during the time when the government officials were voting for country's "official language"...it was a battle between Nanjing-dialect and Canton-dialect...the battle was won by one vote...Nanjing-dialect won the vote. Later, the term "Mandarin" was used to represent Nanjing-dialect, which represented "Chinese".
 An old-school shaved ice machine...
Remember the days when you drink pop out of a bottle?  Ahhh...those were the days...
 An old-school ice-cream cart.
Since we have the coupon book as part of the admission package, we thought we would try some food here.
The on-site restaurant has unique decor that also showcased Taiwan in its fifties and sixties.
Cute way of presenting its menu...
Marinated Combo
Ru-Ro-Fan - no good...look how little sauce they give you...too light on the flavor...
Taiwanese Sausages - no good...not enough fat...
You see, Taiwanese Pork Meatball Soup is the most common soup in Taiwan...it's like chicken noodle soup in Canada...however...these tasted awful...they put way too much corn starch in the meat ball that made it too tender (so it's not chewy)...
Ok...this suppose to be Deep-Fried Pork Chop on Rice...but...not very appetizing...
After Taiwan Storyland, we took the MRT to Danshui., a sea-side town in Taipei County.
We walked around the Danshui Old Street...the street was right along the harbor...
Danshui Old Street is basically a day-time night-market...but only on the weekends...on the weekdays this place is quite dead...

For dinner, I decided to take Buddha Boy and the two oldies (Aunt F and Aunt V) to DS...a hospital-themed restaurant...
All the workers at this place wore nurse uniforms...
If you order a half dozen of beer or more...they will give you the equivalent amount in IV bottles that hang off the ceiling...interesting!
Emergency Room = Washrooms
Interesting Wall Decor...lol!
Oh...and twice a night...at 8pm and 10pm...they will have two girls doing "hot dance"...
Um...ok...LOL!!!
Aunt F's drink...can't remember what this was...
Aunt V's drink...again...can't remember what this was...
My drink came in a flask...I think I ordered a Pineapple Slush...
Some kind of Fried Rice...but can't remember what's it call...
Some kind of of fish pot...
Oooh...interesting...but can't remember...sorry...
Sweet & Sour Pork...have no idea why we ordered this...LOL!
Smoked Pork Hock, German Style with mustard...tasty!!!
Workers having their meal...the table was actually a hospital bed...
Once we got home...mom told us one of her students (my mother-in-law's friend in Taiwan) bought us some Bell Fruits...YUMMY!!!
