No.1 Beef Noodle House 京園牛肉麵 on Urbanspoon
CW and I met up to catch up with latest happenings.  Since she didn't want to drive back into Richmond after a long day's work, we stayed in Burnaby and ended up here.
We started with a drink each.  On the left was CW's Oolong Milk Tea (烏龍奶茶) and on the right was my Wheat Germ Milk Tea (胚芽奶茶).  CW asked for half-sweetened, but they messed up the order and gave her unsweetened...hahaha!  I took a sip and was surprised with the strong oolong fragrance...something for me to order next time because I did not enjoy my tea!!!  My tea was too sweet and didn't have a strong tea taste.  The same drink was better at 508 Bistro...LOL!!!
For appy, CW ordered the Deep-Fried Squid Tentacles (炸魷魚鬚).  This had a crispy outer coating with crunchy inner texture.  It was flavored simply with salt and white pepper.  This was done well, however, it would be better if the oil was cleaner...hahaha!  I'm too picky huh?  :p
For main, CW ordered the Fish in Spicy Sauce with Rice (水煮魚片鍋).  She was raving about how good this was...I guess it's really personal preference because to me, this was a fail.  This was not spicy or hot.  Other than being extremely salty, this pot was flavorless.  I wanted to try a piece of the fish, but was having trouble finding the fish in this vegetable pond.  I was not too impressed.  Anyhow, so far, my favorite place for this dish, locally, is New Szechuan Restaurant (新四川飯店) in Coquitlam.
Since it was a bit chilly, I ordered a soup to warm me up!  The Pork Blood with Pork Intestines in Soup (豬血大腸湯) was...weird.  Why in the world were the intestines chopped into smaller than usual chunks?  Huh?  Well, overall, the flavor was good.  The sour veggie (酸菜) still had the crunch and was actually sour...hahahaha!
For my main, I had the Pork, Cabbage & Dry Tofu in Garlic & Chili Sauce with Rice (回鍋肉飯), or simply, the twice-cooked pork.  I asked for extra spicy and yes, it was, but the spiciness did not overpower the fragrance and the taste of sweet flour paste (甜麵醬) and bean paste (豆瓣醬).  Yes, I did enjoyed the dish, a lot...however, the meat slices were a bit too fatty.

We have been to this place many times since it opened.  The same restaurant group also owns Beefy Beef Noodles on Main Street and New Age Chinese Cuisine on Kingsway.  This place has very limited parking but is one of the better places if you truly want an experience of Taiwanese food.

Both Buddha Boy and I ordered a rice combo and a drink.  This was Buddha Boy's Green Apple Slush.

My Honey Black Tea.
I ordered Twice-Cooked Pork for my rice combo.  This restaurant is one of the better places for this dish in 604!  Just like the way in Taiwan!!!
Buddha Boy ordered Hakka Stir-Fry for his rice combo.  It was tasty but I felt something was missing...but don't know what though...
Each combo came with a bowl of rice and a side dish of veggie.
Of course, Buddha Boy must have his Taiwanese Crispy Popcorn Chicken.  Doesn't taste the same without basil, otherwise, the texture was quite good.
