2011-11-11 Lunch @ Crystal Mall

What's the best place for lunch when you have absolutely no idea of what to eat or where to go?  Food courts!  Buddha Boy and I hit up Crystal Mall once again on this cold and busy stat holiday.  Yes, parking was horrendous!!!
HUNG'S TEPPANYAKI 洪家園鐵板燒

I wanted Taiwanese, so I ordered a Pork Pottage Soup Noodles 香菇肉羹湯麵 at this teppanyaki stall right next to Red Persimmon Taiwanese Cuisine 紅柿子台灣美食.
The pork nuggets had no crunch.  The noodles were overcooked.  The soup was bland and flavorless...it really tasted like thickened water.  I ended up eating just the meat and tossed the rest...yes...it was THAT bad!!!
KASUGA SUSHI & GRILL

On the other side of Red Persimmon Taiwanese Cuisine 紅柿子台灣美食 was where Buddha Boy ordered his Chicken Teriyaki & Assorted Tempura combo.
The tempura pieces were not the greatest, but they were much more satisfying than Hi Genki (see post 2011-11-08 Dinner @ Hi Genki).  The chicken was a bit overcooked.  Nothing special about the teriyaki sauce.
BO WAH FAST FOOD 寶華

While waiting for our orders, Buddha Boy walked around for more food, specifically for something deep-fried.  Yup, the big boy loves anything deep-fried!
He picked up an order of Deep-Fried Basa 炸龍利 from a Chinese fast-food stall by the escalators.  Honestly, these weren't too bad.  The fish was coated with a light batter and was nicely deep-fried.  Unfortunately, these were only lukewarm by the time consumed.

It was busy...even at 2:30pm in the afternoon (yes, we had a late lunch).  We were able to snap a table right in front of this Taiwanese stall.  While we're eating, Buddha Boy suggested to pick up a Taiwanese Burger 刈包, or Gua Bao.
This was horrible!!!  First, where's the pork belly?  Next, I saw no cilantro or peanut powder.  The bun was dense.  The meat was flavorless and chewy.  The whole package was shit.  Such a disgrace.
JAPANESE WAFFLE HOUSE 曰式脆餅屋

With a lousy pork pottage soup and a sickening Taiwanese burger, we needed to source out other food to fill our tummies.  I suggested to try the crepes around the corner.
We ordered a Real Watermelon Juice 新鮮西瓜汁 to kill our thirst from all the MSG food we just had.  Nothing spectacular, just a simple fresh watermelon juice.  Notice they used the word "real"?  I'd really like to try a "fake" watermelon juice...
Buddha Boy had the Smoked Turkey, Mushroom & Lettuce 烟火雞磨菇生菜 (#2).  The turkey "waffle" was simply store-bought turkey ham with sliced button mushrooms and lettuce...simply a smoked turkey sandwich in a crepe.  The "waffle" itself was amazing!  So crispy!  So crunchy!  Yum!
I had the BBQ Chicken Salad & Lettuce 燒雞粟米沙律生菜 (#9).  The chicken salad tasted a bit weird...tasted like boiled chicken and mayo, no other seasonings.  The corn added a refreshing crunch.  The "waffle", again, was the best part!!!

  2. Hello Davidragonee!!! Sorry about my "language"...I really wanted to find a more suitable word to sum up my experience...but in the end, I just had to "swear" to show my frustration...hahahahaha!

    Yes, the gua-bao was disgusting.

  3. Yup, when labelled as TW gua-bao, it was the worst around. In any case, the crepe was good, it had a cardboard like crunchy/crispy texture, while I would expect not for everyone, I actually enjoyed.

  4. The crepes look great! I've never tried it at Crystal Mall because I was afraid of getting ripped off...haha! But I've had them in Taiwan and they were soooo good. Thanks for sharing and I'll make plans to visit soon! - Jenny
